IMMUNITY INSTITUTE, Zagreb

In our papers Novi List dated August 3^rd was printed the article about irrevocable closure our 'Imunoloski Zavod' who was producing the immunization pharmaceutical products through out the decades.

The fourteen years ago in my article published as the comment in Novi list, I have pointed out, for this facility to be dedicated special attention because they have big importance for the health of the residents of our country, and more.

In the old nucleus of the city, near by 'The Stone Gate' there is the pharmacy shop dated 1353.

The hundred thirty nine years before the America was (re)discovered.

So, the production of the pharmaceutical products on this part of Europe has the long tradition...

Should not we learn something about only from this 'a piece of history' we have near by us?

What does it tell to us???

Seeing the situation with our 'Immunity Institute' my comment I started with:

Ouch...

After we lost ' Pliva' pharmaceutical factory, established 1921,( sold to the foreign company whose first move was to close research dept.) who got its name after: P stands for production,Li stands for 'lijekovi' that means remedy,Va stands for vitamins, so its production of remedies and vitamins, from which, later on appeared the offspring 'Jugodijetetika'( who we also lost, so I send my appeal to our government to find this black hole who sucks our best factories and blocked it for good) where end 70-es and 80-es last century we were producing, most probably THE ONLY ONE FACTORY IN EUROPE, AND MAYBE IN THE WHOLE WORLD, the baby food untreated by pesticides and fertilizers...

Few years ago, they stopped production of the antidote against bite the spider called 'black widow'     ( all black body with the nice orange spots, but keep away!), then stopped production the antidote against very poisonous snake called 'poskok' and now comes closing the doors for good...

The size of the problem comes from the fact that they have been producing this antidotes for the entire South Europe!

So, does it really must be so, or there is a tiny hole through out is possible to find the solution of the problem?!?

Its true pity that the productions survived the worst years of the lack of investment, such as the post II WW period of time, when we literally had nothing to eat and our lives were saved by the American UNRA packages, from starvation.

At that times the production was not stopped, but it went on according the possibilities.

Now, we became the EU member, and the access to the funds is somehow eased, I see no reason why the productions of that antidotes will be treated as the priority, for it is, and the solution to the problems must be found.

Our government, must treat this problem urgently, for closure of our facilities, lost working places, believe is not in our common interest.

We understood that we are small country, the whole would fit in the space, by number of residents in less then the half of New York, but still, this small country once ruled the pharmacy market of the 20 mil. residents of Yugoslavia.

The rulership so as the market are not to be let the others easily, they must be kept strongly in our hands, for to conquer the market goes tough but loosing it goes in a minute.

The wars were fought for the markets...

I do not know how many similarity does exists with the Azitromicine antibiotic that David humbly let Goliath to distribute worldwide for what David got just the crumbles from the table of Goliath.

This Azitromicine was synthesized by the team of prof. dr Djokic who was our professor at the Techology Faculty, University of Zagreb, the same that 'produced' the Nobel Prize winners Ruzicka and Prelog...

I do not understand why we are always handling against our own interests.

For our interest is to keep leading position in production of the antidotes to the South European territory, moreover we are, I must repeat this, THE SOLE PRODUCER OF IT HERE!

Our responsibility to our tourists, we take fourth place as the touristic destination of Europe, seeks this production!

This problem is not only the problem of the Immunity Institute but the problem of our government.

We are not that rich to let ourselves this luxury to waste the working places, and the productional facilities, but the production must be maintained under the all circumstances so as in casees, Kamensko, Varteks, Podravka, Gredelj, shipyards...

For the Chinese Universities produced 7 millions of the academic residents of China, all unemployed.

Our Universities produce far less, but where to find the job???

Maybe, if our the Health Minister would more interest dedicate to solve problems on the field that belongs to its domain and less interest in his campaign for the city mayor?!?

By then, dear tourists, coming to Croatia, it would be wise to bring the antidotes from your home countries for to enjoy your vacation carelessly.

It seems like a good news.The Immunity Institute got the order to produce the immunization for the chickenpox to the India's company HLL BIOTECH LIMITED in value of 5 million dollars. Hope they will find the investor for the full scale of their production. Wishing them well!
