PROTEST OF SLAVONSKI BROD CITIZENS AGAINST AIR POLLUTION

This article is comment on "Eko Kvarner's" dismissal request of the environmental minister Zmajlovic,

printed in Novi list, November 11th 2012.

Unfortunately, the environment is polluted by man quickly, and passionately,  but slowly if at all possible, the pollution is cleansing. Conclusion that the problem is as old as Russian oil refinery in Bosanski Brod  is true, but we can not blame only the  Russian oil for it, or any other oil, because byproducts of refining, variations in percentages, they are all harm, not just benzene, many of them are carcinogenic! Aromatics have a long and evil, known history.  

The smoke is consisting of the condensed aromatic nuclei, nitrogen compounds, sulfur compounds, unfortunately some as sulfur dioxide with moisture in the lungs give sulphurous acid, which is not only irritating, but also over the long term damaging lungs by corrosion. By the same pattern acts N02. Hydrogen sulfide is known to turn smell rotten eggs, but when used in large quantities deadens sense of smell, deceiving us that is not present but is in turn in a BIG, DEADLY AMOUNT! 

Otherwise, the hydrogen sulfide belongs to the same group as the poison cyanide, the infamous Zyklon B, which were used in the concentration camps in World War II to kill the concentration camp prisoners ... And when we're up to the concentration camps prisoners,  the parallels come to my mind, with published statistics that the concentration of hydrogen sulfide is not normal, but UNDERNEATH it! NICE! This is what the Nazi leaders of the camp could use as the defense at the Nuremberg Trials: the concentration of hydrogen cyanide was typically below lethal in average, only in the days of poisoning poor innocent victims, was far over it ... On average. Camp prisoners could not be poisoned, they must have died from some mysterious, yet undiscovered illness and literally every each one! Statistics is very nice for juggling, but we do not need it. 

The fact is that even at the beginning of 2000-es, Mrs Dorica Nikolc said that the fight for a clean environment is very nice, but since then nothing has been done really ... Well, now some will tell that it is not so: that: we set up monitoring stations showing us contamination, when they are in function...  

But is that the air made cleaner, water less problematic, food strictly controlled? No. I understand the minister in charge Mr. Zmajlovic, because since Mr. Kovacevic, our relevant ministers have managed to overlook a lot of pollutions ... 

So from where to start now? Disposal of waste? Sava purity of water  Zagreb and all downstream  from river Sava, citizens drink, and cellulose factory in Krsko enriches by the dioxin ... Krsko not only pollute  by nuke and their the radio nuclides ...Incineratery facility  "Puto" set on firefew years ago,  made us unwished gift of dioxin poisoning and only God knows what else, the analysis never done nor published ... JANAF recognizes over 300 ruptured pipelines, spilled oil is still in the soil, no one can, however, and  even one will, to remove it. There is no magician stick for it. Population is for some time provided by water in tankers, but these are permanent pollution ... 

Prime minister Milanovic is tangled in energy saving bulbs, but we always catch the last wagon train. Thanks to them, the energy saving bulbs, mercury falls with rain falling on the fields of wheat and other crops, not just tuna  fish is full of mercury .. Energy saving bulbs radiate almost like nuke Krsko, give a bad light, when spent they should be disposed in the special containers for hazardous waste because they  belongs there.  

Newborns are born with tumors, is ANYBODY wondered why???  

Why our citizens population of  Kvarner islands above average get cancer but living in "clean" air environment ...The refinery Urinje poisons... The question is not  Ms. Holy or Mr. Zmajlovic or XY ... The question is why do we ignore the existence of the problem. 
The question is why we do nothing.  

Because ecology is also not throwing trash, papers, cigarette butts in the streets. Ecology is not to run the dogs on the playgrounds, ecology is pick up what dogs leave behind ... A metal pet waste oils belongs into a special container and not into the ground polluting it and furthermore the water basins. 
We have neatly stored one problem after another. We do not need the minister but Jesus Christ to solve all the problems, because only he could have solve them all ... Until then both, the people in Slavonski Brod so as in Bosanski Brod ( divided by the river Sava only), while praying, adds one sentence more: "... God let us a strong wind blowing today ..."

I have seen that this post is read by quite lots of people, but please do not understand it wrong. I DO NOT underrate the problems of Slavonski Brod citizens and my sympathy are with them. I wanted them to know that it do not only stinks, but it damages health of citizens for they truly do HAVE THEIR RIGHT TO BREATH THE CLEAN AIR! 
This what I wanted to tell, but it is not written explicitly enough is that there where the refineries are, the problems are almost the same: Urinje refinery does the same damages to the people and to the environment, Sisak refinery as well,  Slavonski Brod through out Bosanski Brod, the same! The problem is that the refineries are built up in the cities and no one then, when decision was made about building them up, realized what torture this will be to the settlers...

But it should have been considered!!!

Just by the chance I lived in Caprag, down town of Sisak for several years in my childhood. I know what does it mean when you can not open the windows and how bad is when through out closed windows black clouds of pollution gets into your rooms: we were poisoned by the iron and steel factory Sisak where my father worked in...The tap water run yellow, had to be boiled...

And yes, there are the filters that could filtrate smokes from the refinery but due to the crude particles in the smokes, the filters will be blocked and useless in no time. They are expensive, but the health of the people is not cheap neither. The fact that the refinery belongs to the other state rises up the problem to the international level that only politics can solve:can and have to!

But the problem is that this situation is not only up to the good will of some one, the contradictory interests are impacting and make it far tougher than the chemistry complicates it.
So I truly wish them to solve the problem as soonest but, sorry,  I am afraid that it might not be so...

January 19th 2013.

I see that this article is the most read on this blog, because of reason why the concerned citizens have no other source of infos that will satisfied their concern. And their concern has grounds!

There were comments then, when the other heating mean will be used, such as the gas instead of coal there will be no problem for the citizens of both Brod's. At my opinion, the pollution of air did not made only heating gasses released by natural process of burning, but mixture of burning gases and gases released by process of the refining of the oil. Most of the sulfur gases and some crude particles comes from processing just the Russian oil that is known of having the highest part of sulfur in it so already by drilling it, the problems occur because this sulfur blocks the pipes...
Both problems could be sold in no time by installing the filters that seeks additional investment, but the investment in medical treatment and the remedies costs the money too.

So please, be honest and tell the people openly why their health is on the rocks because they have right to know that! Health not only elderly people, but babies and children is imperiled too. That have to be our main concern and accelerator in our action towards achieving clean air.

Because they have right to have it!!!

There is sentence: Help yourself so Lord will help you too...

Therefore, please, citizens of both Brod, sign the petition requesting installing filters because it CAN be done and OUGHT to be done ASAP. Take care for this petition to be handled to the owners of the refinery, because they are obliged by law, or have to be, to provide the most safe process in refinery not only for the environment but for the refinery workers too... I wish you good luck... 

Remind the owners that the most precious you have, your health is damaged, day by day by the vapor and gases coming from refinery; the price of filters is not your concern, but the price of healing your damaged health is...

May 15th 2013:

Dear citizens of both Brods, Slavonski and Bosanski Brod, PLEASE do sign petition on installing the filters in refinery RIGHT AWAY, because the announced news in media for refinery goes in renewing and redoing the process if ever starts, will take times and the still days are coming and therefore there will be no wind to dilute released poisons in the air, so their presence in the air will reach the critical values many times from now on.

Please, also, keep in mind that the problem might be bigger than it looks like at the firs sight: all of that poison pollutants will get down to the ground sooner or later, polluting ground and all what grows on it, it says that the imperiled citizens are not only BREATHING IN polluted air, they EAT polluted crops and DRINK polluted water, because this is the natural circle of processes in nature.

They may do in refinery what they want but THE FILTER FIRST, P L E A S E!!!

The filters will not disturb the process of renewing, but can help imperiled citizens to breath the cleaner air.

So, the mayors of both cities sit down, and please work out your strategy to protect yours citizens lives, but what ever your conclusion comes out, first step done yesterday MUST BE FILTERS FIRST!!!

Because yours citizens have right to have clean air and environment, this is their basic right!

NORDENAU HEALING WATERS

Living in Germany then, since 1988, I have read similar article in Königsteiner Woche 1992.

I wish the more possible people read it, because it truly helps, papers wrote that in case of radiation damages, this was ONLY helping poor children of Chernobyl. As you will see, it helps for the other illnesses too...
I recall reading the article, it was written the legend local people believe in, that Jesus Christ himself blessed this waters. You may not to believe in it but it truly helps!

UPDATE....Since its discovery in 1992, the spring of healing water in Nordenau, Germany, has been visited daily by hundreds of people from all over the world.

The spring is in a slate mine on the property of the Hotel Tommes in the Winterberg Mountains near Düsseldorf. Newspaper and television reports have spoken of miraculous healings attributed to the water, as people said to have been declared incurable by medical science have been healed of a variety of illnesses and medical conditions.

A particularly interesting story is that of an 18-year-old boy from Kiev. He and a number of other "children from Chernobyl" had been invited to Nordenau by Mr and Mrs Tommes (proprietors of Hotel Tommes). As a result of the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl power plant the boy was suffering from a very unusual form of lymphatic cancer which had already spread to his stomach and chest. This meant that he experienced great difficulty in breathing and was easily exhausted. Doctors had given up on him, declaring him to be incurably ill. During his visit to Nordenau, he went to the spring in the mine twice a day and after some time was well enough to cycle over the surrounding hills on a mountain-bike. After a stay of five weeks the symptoms of his illness had virtually disappeared. On leaving Germany and returning to Kiev the young man got a job and says he feels fine.

Research carried out in 1992 by a Dr Steinbruck from Frankfurt involved investigating the cases of 42 visitors to the healing spring. Of these cases, 30 per cent were completely cured; in 28 per cent of the cases there was a significant improvement in their condition; and in 26 per cent their condition had improved to some extent. These findings were confirmed by doctors. Recent research carried out by a Dr Gadek on 515 visitors who had drunk water from the spring, showed that, independent of age and personality type, in almost all cases there was a significant improvement in the quality of life after drinking the healing water.

Nordenau water was tested and investigated in the laboratories of Professor Shirahata in Fukuoha in Japan. It was discovered that diseases and conditions such as cataracts and arthritis and the initial stages of multiple sclerosis respond well to, and can be successfully treated with, Nordenau water. In May 1999 Professor Shirahata addressed a conference on molecular biology in Lugano, Switzerland, and spoke of the 'phenomenal' healing power of Nordenau water. He is currently studying the effects of the water on tumors and plans to publish his findings in 2000. Information about various studies is available from the Hotel Tommes.

GMO FOOD AS SAFE AS CONVENTIONAL???

In the Spring of 2003, Mr. Maryanski visited our country to convince us that GMO food is as safe as the conventional! This is my reply to him, printed in March 2003, in Novi list, Rijeka, Croatia.

I have read your above article with interest,

Ms. N. Domazet government obviously matter, seems to me
more then the distinguished gentleman J.H. Maryanski,
although to him is available more knowledge on a larger scale,

to the matter of GMO's, therefore
it is inexcusable that we usurps his rights to sell us a horn as a
candles.
It's sad that people who are sitting at the FDA, may give such the statements
your ditinguished Novi list printed in the interview. Because
a claim which was printed in the title is straight
misrepresentation. And knowingly, with the target
intent.

Mr. Maryanski says they never-guess the FDA, received
information that such foods are harmful.

I ask whether he was aware of the case of tryptophan,
Japanese manufacturer Showa Denko-which exactly in the
country of Honorable Mr. Maryanski comes (it was imports from Japan to the USA), took 37
of lives, and over 1500 people were left with permanent
disability. It is the world's public
known, so how does it comes that to him it is not?
    

I wonder if Mr. Maryanski heard of tests
Dr. A. Pusztai, which was the disclosure of the truth, that
GM potatoes hardly damage immune system, liver,
brain, stomach wall, etc., he was forced to withdrew from the tests,

sent in to retirement,
but his true results nonetheless found their way,into publicity.

Dr.Pusztaia results were confirmed by other scholars in the world.
    

I wonder if it is a safe product GM beef hormone
growth that just in the country of Mr. Maryanski
caused over 2000% increase in morbidity from lymphoma, and
causes prostate cancer, breast cancer and nearly 40%
enlargement of the spleen, and why the FOX TV reporter
from Tampa, Mrs Jane Akre was fired because she did not
wanted to fix a report on this product. Judicial
epilogue of a judgment was in favor of Ms. Akre, the compensation of
overall 850,000 U.S. Doll. Ms. Akre obviously,
and so the court ruled, put forward the truth. (beef
growth hormone through milk due to all other
dairy products in the EU is banned, but the country in
Eastern Europe ais used, and this is the area from which we import
a large amount of 'our' milk-Caution, therefore:).
    

March 12th, 1999th York's Nutrition Laboratory announced
report on the rise of allergies in the UK from 50% in the
1998 year, which is tied to the use of GM soybeans, used in the
production of wide range of products such as the

chocolate to cosmetics and food of course, and
baby food as well.
    

The Berlin Medical Chamber's September 8^th, 1998 announced
joint report with Greenpeace, a warning that
Novartis maize causes resistance to antibiotics
ampicillin, amoxicillin and penicillin, are the ones who
and prescribe the most, because the built-in corn
resistance gene (marker, to see what is
obtained by gene technology because they often fails
achieved what they wanted!)
    

What about the GM fish in the country Honourable Mr.
Maryanski? What is a genetic mistake made in
reproductive system because fish in wild waters

(reproduces naturally without any problems) coupled with
GM fish no longer reproduces, are sterile!
    

Why Russia has returned the entire shipment of GM maize
Novartis back (Russia has a law prohibiting the importation of GM
product-we still do not!) in August 1999.?
    

Why is the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul in December
1999,  issued an order for the destruction of up to 1 million
acres sown by GM soybeans?
    

Why is in the Indian state of Gujarat, GM cotton crops harvest
turned to ashes and smoke in November 2001?( after they have discovered

they seeded GMO cotton seeds instead of natural, exported them ' by mistake'!)
    

Why do the Japanese have refused further shipments of corn from
Mr. Maryanski country?( After discovering it was GMO!)
    

Why is hungry Africa refused GM food and prefere go
hungry than sick?
    

What happened to that Monarch butterfly,
there is no longer in its wintering grounds in Mexico (in 1999's
Cornell University published a report that
GM corn pollen pushed it into extinction)?
    

Why is Deutsche Bank New York, May 21st 1999
published report:" GMO's are Dead"-consultation for the
money not be invested in GM foods because they
no longer make a profit!
    

Why Greenpeace USA released the "Shopping List"
booklet with a list of products to the US markets
listing the products that do not contain,
phase out or contain GM products; why if the GM products are

as safe as conventional foods, as it claims Mr.
Maryanski?!?
    

Why did the USA maintained demonstrations against GM
StarLink corn, which they finished in their tacos, and they,
the USA, are exporting to Mexico (because to
Mexicans I guess, the GMO's are good enough), but when the
boomerang came back then it was no longer
OK??? 

Because that certain corn gained permission for sale

'only' in fodder ( but it usedfor the production of 

vitamin C, so that almost all the vitamin C
in the United States is produced from GM raw materials).

As if between
animal fodder and human food there is a Chinese wall, as if the
livestock fed by GM soy and corn not end on the
plates of people in the form of a fine steak, etc. and
brings us to the human body all that Frankenstein technology.

But this story not ends here, this is only the beginning.

The beginning of a story tragic for man kind.
    

Mr. Maryanski, since you're so bad
informed, while you position claims better
information,  I'd recommend one interesting
book by author Dr. Mae-Wan Ho: Engineering,
subtitle Dream or Nightmare, that explains the dangers of
'harmless' GM 'food'.

Anyway, the lady doctor British scholar, held a lecture on
Genetic engineering and participated in discussions about the
harms of GMO's in the UN, the European Parliament, the World
Bank and others. Since 1994. she is an advisor to the Third World
Network-on issues in gene engineering,
biotechnology and biosafety.
    

Space does not permit to present harms of soy you are taking as the example,
rejecting statements it causing allergy
you deny the danger, only to mention the facts from book

Mrs. Dr. Mae-Wan Ho,: when the finally Round Up Ready
soy were analyzed, after years of using in fodder,
molecular analysis shown, the order of genes
were messed up, but at the genetic intervention
indeterminate plant genome also messes and also,
534 fragments of unknown origin are found in soy.

All this differs from the original data by Monsanto
provided.
    

What these fragments represent ? Are they
toxic compounds, carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic?
Perhaps not, but no one is bothered
to examine it!

No one has provided any evidence of
the existence and activity of these substances.
    

What does that mean? Simply, they did not get what
was meant, and what is gotten, they did not fundamentally
analyzed.

Well, if no allergy in the first generation
consumption occures, does not mean that there will be continued, because
transgenic genes lie low in the genome [silencing]
even when they are not expressed.This infernal machine
may explode at any time, and the trigger can be any
bacteria, virus, others transgenic gene from other GMO food etc.
    

Since you mentioned the famous Golden rice, which is
archived now, sent to be improved in the next 5 years back to
International Institute for rice (IRRI),
they are due to remove the resistance antibiotic genes

So Mr. Maryanski, you never said a word about, is it
possible that you did not know it has the antibiotic resistance gene?

Neither you said it does not cover
needs on vitamin A, because adult
day intake should consume 18 kg of rice (!) to meet
physical needs on vitamin A, which in turn in Asia (which is supposedly
product intended) covers by glass of papaya juice
or two tablespoons of palm oil.
    

After all when we're on the rice, there is another kind
of rice growing in your country, in Sutter County, the
Greenpeace discovered plantations, without any protection and measures
of pollution of the environment, in that rice was introduced
minimum of two proteins from human breast milk, intended for
the pharmaceutical industry! The same report says
the rice, subject to GM rice contamination was
exported to other countries (the report said Japan and
Turkey and GM raw materials for pharmaceuticals were
exported in at least Canada and France - also
notes that 20 countries have already produced drugs from
GM products!)

July 2000  clear put out the 4 pages of text in

I am asking myself who sits in EC of EU: for UK complained on air pollution by Sahara sand!
IF Sahara sand can get to UK, the GM pollen, far easier, can get from Spain to Croatia, Poland...
By this, our efforts to eat organic foods seems goes in vain...
The petition against GM crops, signed by the million citizens of EU and handed to the health minister of EU government on December 9th 2010, seems like being farce!

Reading title of this article I felt goose bumps, reading
article further more, I shuddered stronger! Come on,
people, what are we doing??? Who was mad to bring
such a decision on the construction? Why you did not take the statement

of the Environment Minister Kovacevic? Does anyone in our country understand,

what means stocking 18,000 cubic
meters of radioactive waste approximately 80 km southeast of
Zagreb, when Krsko nuke plant is for 40 km to the west?

ZAGREB IN NUKE SANDWICH, FINE!!!

This is precisely what we
need! And no reactions of authorities, however did
none of them has a conscience?
  

Are we are the problem of radioactivity of neighbor country

solving by pushing the nuke waste to Bosnians to their border in Kostajnica?

Like, radioactivity will spread just to the south, we are
saved. Well, I'm sorry that movie does not play, because
radioactivity neatly laid out within the circle of harmed
places! Towards Croatia too!
  

Even if Croatia needs actually to take radioactive
waste from Krsko plant, how actually there are tons, drums...of it?

Does really 18,000 cubic meters or someone 'smart' but 'thoughtful'
want to earn good money taking somebody else's, not radioactive
waste, but radioactive death for all of us? '

Does anyone from architects really think they could design
disposal perfectly RADIOACTIVE TIGHT?!? Are they
really so naive?!
Gentlemen, go down to the city Stone, the destructive effect
last earthquake you can still see there. Can you
indeed guarantee that this will be the perfect
RADIOACTIVE TIGHT DISPOSAL?!? HOW YOU CAN
PROVE THAT?!? By endangering our lives???
Build a nuclear waste disposal in QUAKE UNSAFE ZONE
is equal to expectation the safe sailing of the boat or ship
with pierced bottom. I'm sorry I'm not naive enough to buy

that.

Your attempts to convince me are choking me, stopped in my throat.

Who can measure the radioactivity of 18,000 cubic meters of the
radioactive waste??? By what equipment?Geiger dosimeter? Forget Sieverts and
millisieverts, Bequerels, units which we measured
radioactivity of the Chernobyl accident, and IT WAS

DEVASTATING!

If there is no such device that
can endure so much RADIOACTIVITY to measure it? Giga,
or Terabecquerels? Who will dare to go down to disposal lot to
MEASURE IT??? In case of leaking of the radioactivity -
cracking of steel concrete, caused by the earthquake
or something else, who will dare to send workers
closer to this hell on earth to patch it???
What Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they will be dead before
coming to leaking place! And we all with
them soon, very soon. And the creators of this idiotic idea too!
How many Chernobyl nuclear power plant radioactivity the creators

of that mighty idea think shall be stored on the territory of the touristic
Croatia??
No less important is this: I think the creators of
waste disposal hope that Croatia will be allowed to enter Europe
with 18,000 deadly ballast, so that the hot
deadly potato we will hand them over to solve the problem for us ?!? Forget it!
They have to many of the waste and to many problems with it, too.

But get real, the problem lies elsewhere. Russia to which they have
tried to push such a 'convenient collection point' of waste disposal
deadly nuclear waste said NO!

Logically, we need it now to store it
elsewhere!But where?!? The answer lies in
front of our legs. LITERALLY!
    

Just to remind you, Krsko has done it.
Twenty years has just passed. There is no magic
wand that will make it safe for the environment
ever, even when it's put still. Incidentally, costs
of preservation are higher than the costs of construction, I wish
I would be wrong! Greenpeace Austria notes on
its website a number of accidents in the plant.
Why we do not know of anyone?

Or someone knows. What's
happened on March 1st 2000 when broadened the rumor not
to drink tap water from Sava river because it is polluted.

The people from Istria were calling relatives in Zagreb to warn them. Too late,
of course, because we are the last one to know ...

The woman, working as the pediatrics in Slovenia then, confirmed

me having heard air raid sounded, that marked accident in Krsko...

Does the average citizen of Croatia knows what she/he
should know? Does they know how the samples are taken for
water analysis? Does they know that they are waiting for once a week
samples arrive from Slovenia, so we have only average weekly sample
united for measurement that gives only the average
radioactivity? Rather than take the troubled getting to Sava river to grab the water

daily and analysing it, asking Krsko what that peaks means!?!

As far as I'm concerned that radioactivity in the Krsko nuke plant,
Slovenians will treat adequate with care and thoroughly, but I am very
concerned of the radioactivity river Sava near Zagreb, for solving
this issue should concern us all!
  

And do not assume that the radioactivity that
comes from Krsko is indeed zero.

The radioactive waste is used fuel from the nuke plants consisting from 1 pct of

plutonium, 96 pct of uranium and the rest are so called fission products, highly

radioactive. So its not THE WASTE but DEADLY RADIOACTIVE WASTE!

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Mid December 2009  Croatia is evaluated as the 48^th country in the world concerning environmental issues that caused shock in media...Only then and not again the media asked why is it so....

Unfortunately, the position of the environment protection in our country was reduced on the enthusiasm of unpaid 'catastrophics' how Dr.Sci. Jelaska, the accademist, named us irronicaly.

Some of us are joined in a handful of interest groups from the pure SPITE fighting for better living conditions for the nation, although they know that their efforts are measured and categorized as a attack of Don Quixote on windmills. Here and there appears a short dash or photo of their actions, such as today's sale of the golf ball instead of eggs, as a protest to the 'golfisation' of the agricultural fields on which crops do not grows but the jack golf holes. 'Bitten wolf by Gretel', there is no political will to draw more serious cuts, because we know we have no money ...

Anyway we have only handful of such eco groups such as Eko Kvarner, Zeleni Osijek, Eko Zadar, Zelena Akcija, Eko Pan-Karlovac, and Zeleno Srce dealing with the County ecoproblems of Sisak-Moslavina County.

More than ten years ago I wanted to see Greenpeace in Croatia, talk to Austrian Greenpeace, German Greenpeace and Headquarters in the Netherlands but I was clearly been told the priority is India, Israel, we are not in plans...Only what we got was visit of Mr. Benny Haerlin...

A list on which we occupy the infamous low rating are not the only categorized by Germanwatch and Climate Action Network Europe, according to the press freedoms we are somewhere at the infamous the same level, and according the purity from 'GMO free countries' English internet site 'genwatch' placed us on the list of growers of GMOs, because of GMO corn growth.

Bioethical Council established 1999 to stop penetration of GMO's to Croatia, or at least we believed so, on 'The Round Table Against GMO's' organized on April 10^th 1999 by HSS party, under the presidency of the same above named accademist issued Permition to conduct tests by Pioneers GMO corn seeds “ of only 1 kgs seed” but in Belje appeared hectars of GMO grown corn by some sort of magic corn...??...

So from GMO free country in shortest time we become a GMO grower.

Good that catchword 'Croatia-heaven on earth' masterpiece of our tourism minister that was withdrawn because it would sound very grotesque ...As well thousands useless posters printed with the written 'Croatia-GMO free country'...

When our 'whistle blowers' warn on substances harmful to humans and the environment, the people of power hush them up right away, ridicules, laugh out their so called ' incompetence'.

Starting from my own: in February of 2005 I have sent the article in the Zagreb's daily Vjesnik, in that article I responded to the former article of my former professors from the university (not taught me, but I did graduate in the department), who pointed out that there are no people who are ready to show reaction and send replies to the certain problems. I just wanted to express my support to him so wrote the article the harmful and toxic substances in daily use, it has been printed, but has caused the attention I did not expected. The state toxicologist named me ' the lady that all disturbs her', a strong toxicological argument!

This gentleman defended himself that in its 'database' has no reports of toxicity tera phthalates and Teflon. Evidently we do not use the same data base so I found out that in the USA noticed that the teflon kitchen ware caused death of home pets canaries, who are very sensitive to toxic fumes. Seems like it was sufficient alert for the USA citizens that something is wrong with teflon, but we seems do not care much.

So some one had to warn the nation.

I do not understand how Teflon could get the FDA trade license as a safe product, such unstable compounds such as Teflon, which at the temperatures above 300 degrees Celsius collapse evaporating fumes and crude particles of teflon decomposition, releasing for inst. compound in small quantities, true, indeed, but very poisonous, identical to that found in the Baxter dialyzers responsible for over twenty deaths of kidney patients in Croatia!

And it's not a evil remark that if we continue to pollute sources of drinking water, in the way we are doing, soon we may be very thirsty! And not only Pliva acidic sewage leaking is responsible, we have in the water pesticides (eg atrazine), nitrogen compounds of NPK fertilizer in the water. ..

In our TV “Croatia Alive” mrs. Vesna Pusic mentioned that from the 82 tested sources of waters, only 12 had sufficient quality of water, that means majority fails!

And of course that the great deal of Zagreb's citizens, if not all are drinking Sava river waters, filtrated trough out pebbles of Sava banks. Filtered from what??? Can for inst. dioxin from celulose factory Krsko be filtered? Can radioactivity be filtered??

Why was dr. Sci.Branica literally to his death warning us on overheating Sava river:why is Sava overheated, because of insufficient supply of water to the cooling system of Krsko nuke plant, or I hope not, something is wrong with the process...

By the way when you have read last time data on radioactivity river Sava? EVER read??
    

Of course my disobey was paid by disconnection of my phone for 12 days because of the 'broken wire', and that 3 teams of T-Com's technicians were not able to find out what was wrong ( the phone bill was paid). -carcinogenicity: not yet observed but causes benign leiomyomas( tumor of smooth muscles)in test on mice and rats due to beta-adrenergic activity
-causes muscle tremor used oral
-behaviour changes:feelings of reslessness, apprehension and anxiety

REPLY OF THE STATE TOXICOLOGIST DR. F. PLAVSICTO THE ARTICLE "TOXIC AND HARM MATERIALS IN DAILY USE

"In recent months appeared on the different sides the self-appointed toxicologists who even published a book( “The E numbers and the food additives” written by spouses Vrcek) and to whom is not known the basic concepts of toxicology. This time drove my the reaction engineer Tatijana Malacko in her article" The materials in the application although the toxic and carcinogenic "(Vjesnik, February 18^th 2005).
 

The lady, her like-minded the Vrčeks, shows they do not know the basic concepts of toxicology, and sources of data collected this entire group as "toxicologist", are very strange.
Complete a nonsense to claim that PET packaging or Teflon cancerogenic or that aspartame is the culprit for many harmful effects in diabetic patients who take them. I wonder just why the diabetologists such claims have not responded. No one from the authors of such claims could find data in official database of the European Union or the World Health Organization (WHO), the authors of stories about dangerous teflon or PET packaging such information could not be found. Teflon is inert, insoluble in water solutions and there is no possibility of its penetration into the body, either through the digestive system or skin.
It could get into the lungs when it would develop, during cooking, aerosol of teflon, which seems highly unlikely. It has long been known that at temperatures above 600 degrees Celsius leads to degradation of Teflon with the low formation of a hazardous substances, including the worst perfluoroizobutilen (known as a cause of death of our citizens in Baxter dializator disaster), but it is not a carcinogen.

A similar story is with the PET packing, from which it may release small molecules (eg color), if it contains. It is insoluble in water and therefore no possibility to be in any way absorbed into the bloodstream, and is not a carcinogen. So much for the information of new sources of Toxicology.

This is the first written article:


“GM insulin will do harm to the health of diabetics
and there will be a death cases  too ”


Reading the article “ Introduction of New Insulin” in
Novi List I worried about  the monopolization of our
insulin market from the side of Novo Nordisk.  Namely,
according writing Vecernji list ( other daily)  Novo
Nordisk held up to now 85 pct of our insulin market
and in the near future, if I have understood it well,
Novo Nordisk have to rule by our market totally.  But
other matter interested me more that I haven’t find it
in there: is this product genetically altered product
because, so far I know,  Novo Nordisk produces just
the product like that.  The case is familiar to me
from Canada( by the way Canada was the first one

to extract insulin in twenties last century). There,
1995. Novo Nordisk withdrew  the all animal insulin
from the market introducing genetically altered
insulin exclusively.  This product causes at the users
the reactions that can be lethal as well.  That bad
example followed Elly Lilly 1999. so now is happening
that in Canada people can get just  the “new” product,
it means genetically altered insulin.
Of course, the producer insists that the product is
safe but it’s not so.  In April 2000.  the class suit
was launched in New Mexico,USA against both companies
because putting on the market exclusively genetically
altered insulin that causes various reactions, some of
them lethal too.

The reactions are as follows:
 A survey carried out by the Trust in 1994 showed the following adverse effects to synthetic GM insulins:

• loss of warnings of hypos
• extreme tiredness or lethargy, sleeping all the time
• large weight increase 28% - feeling unwell all the time
• memory loss, confusion, mood swings, change in personality
• erratic blood glucose levels
• joint and muscle pains
  

When patients returned to animal insulin, these symptoms largely disappeared.

Majority of the users suffers from 3 or 4 symptoms at
the same time.  There were cases that the blood sugar
dropped drastically during driving the car and people
caused the accidents, some died...  The recommendation
is for using the animal insulin further specially for
THE CHILDREN.  Returning back to the animal insulin
the symptoms withdrawing,  if there weren’t the
hypoglycemic shock and brain damages occurred. 

Just the hypoglycemic shock took 8  human lives in Canada,
92 in the USA.  All people were using, proved, GM
insulin!  The reactions appeared at 465 people, in the
USA over 4,000.  This data are coming from “ Globe and
Mail” from 6. February this year(2002).  We can expect
that, in the meantime,  this numbers will just rase up. 
Canada established  The Committee for investigation
the cases and reactions to the GM insulin.  The
details about the class suit you can find at
cfuller@telus.net,  as well you can check all above
there.
(In the meantime, the class suit is rejected due to the lack of evidences!)

I worry about that up to 27,000 our citizens will
fight against the reactions, (because at least 20 pct of GM insulin

users are suffering from the above side effects, at least, some are suffering

on multiple side effects or all of them)

  that the insulin instead
of improving their health will do more harm to them,
and there will be the death cases as well.

Sadly but true how successful is that,  as  Dr. Jost
called it “ GM imperialism”. For inst. Novo Nordisk
bought the biggest producer of the animal insulin of
the south hemisphere Biobras just to withdrew the
product from the market in favor of GM insulin.
In the lightening of all above I am afraid that our
diabetics will find themselves in the bad position
therefore I am asking from the people in charge to
take care about.

The Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust is a registered charity based in the UK which  formed in 1994 to help and support people with diabetes and their families, especially those who suffer adverse effects as a result of using synthetic GM insulins. Membership of the Trust has grown with members in many countries throughout the world, largely as a result of the policy of systematic discontinuation of animal insulin by the major pharmaceutical companies in most countries, indicating that this issue is global and not restricted to any particular country. The Trust aims to help and support people who are unable to tolerate synthetic GM insulins, to seek recognition for the adverse effects caused by synthetic GM insulins and to campaign to maintain continued supplies of animal insulin.

Synthetic GM so-called 'human' insulin was introduced in the UK in 1982. Following the widespread belief, or rumour, that animal insulins were to be discontinued, by the mid to late 1980s, 84% of people requiring insulin had been transferred to GM 'human' insulin, often without their knowledge, consent or for any clinical reason. The British Diabetic Association, now Diabetes UK, received nearly 3,000 letters about adverse effects caused by this type of insulin. Many prescribing doctors prevented people from changing back to the animal insulin that had suited them better.



At that time the most common adverse effect was a loss of warnings of hypoglycaemia putting the patient at risk of unheralded hypoglycaemic attacks without the ability to take remedial action to prevent coma and even death. Since that time the range of adverse effects increased.



A survey carried out by the Trust in 1994 showed the following adverse effects to synthetic GM insulins:

• loss of warnings of hypos
• extreme tiredness or lethargy, sleeping all the time
• large weight increase 28% - feeling unwell all the time
• memory loss, confusion, mood swings, change in personality
• erratic blood glucose levels
• joint and muscle pains
  

When patients returned to animal insulin, these symptoms largely disappeared.

Patients were told that GM insulins would be cheaper, less immunogenic and better. There was never any evidence to support these statements and after 20years none of these statements have proved to be true. Indeed, it is surprising that GM insulins have become first line insulin treatment as they are significantly more expensive than animal insulins. The Trust gave evidence to the UK Health Select Committee Inquiry into the Influence of the pharmaceutical industry on health and pointed out that there was a significant waste of money to the National Health Service by the prescribing of GM insulins which no proven benefit for patients over less expensive animal insulins. The evidence
A Cochrane Review [2002] comparing animal and 'human' insulin showed that 'human' insulin was not superior to animal insulin. More importantly, the Review also showed that the vast majority of the research was methodologically poor and no research had been carried out to compare mortality and complication rates using the two different types of insulin. Thus neither doctors nor patients have any evidence of long-term safety o GM insulins on which to base their treatment decisions.



The present position in the UK is that 30,000 people use animal insulin, about 10% of insulin users. However, this usage relies on patients finding out for themselves that animal insulins are available as the majority of doctors and diabetes educators do not give patients a choice of treatment which is theirs by right.



In the late 1990s insulin analogues were introduced, again on the basis that they were better than their predecessors but a second Cochrane Review [2004] compared GM 'human' insulin and short-acting insulin analogues. This review concluded that analogues are only slightly better in a minority of patients and again the research was methodologically poor and there is no evidence of their long-term safety. They have not been studied in people with diabetic complications, children or pregnant women because of concerns that insulin analogues have a greater potential for carcinogenic and mitogenic effects. It is of great concern to the Trust that patients are not informed of these risks, of the lack of research or of the lack of long-term safety data. Therefore their choice of insulin treatment is not an informed choice but one made on assumptions that insulin analogues are safe, and not on evidence of their safety.



It is for all these reasons that the Trust believes that animal insulins must remain available. If they are discontinued, people who have adverse effects to GM iinsulins will have no alternative treatment and will be condemned to a life of adverse effects. In addition, those people who do not wish to risk the possible development of cancers in the future, will not have an alternative treatment.



Lobbying Government
The Trust and its members have raised all these matters with their Members of Parliament and over 30 Parliamentary Questions have been asked by concerned MPs. The Trust has also met with The Minister of Health with responsibility for diabetes and her advisors.



To date we have established the following:

• Novo Nordisk, one of the manufacturers of GM 'human' and analogue insulins, has acknowledged that there are people who are unable to tolerate 'human' insulins.
  

• the Department of Health has acknowledged that analogue insulins do have the potential for carcinogenic effects and that GM 'human' insulins also have this potential but to a lesser degree than the analogues. It has also been  acknowledged that the epidemiological evidence gathered over 75 years does not suggest that such risks occur with natural animal insulins.
  

• The Department of Health has agreed that patients should be given an informed choice of treatment including the choice of animal insulin.
  

• The Department of Health has agreed that doctors and diabetes educators should be made more aware that animal insulins are available as a choice of treatment available to patients and arrangements are being made to provide all this information on the Department's website.
  

Patients' requests of Government
The Trust is continuing to campaign to ensure that insulin treatment is safe and effective for both short and long-term use and that the choice of treatment is available to patients. Therefore we are asking Government to:

• instigate independent, high quality, long-term research into the safety of GM 'human' and analogue insulins is carried out to ensure that these insulins are safe for long-term use for all categories of people with requiring insulin treatment.
  

• ensure that animal insulins remain available indefinitely for people who are unable to tolerate GM insulins and as a treatment option for those who have justifiable concerns about the carcinogenic and mitogenic risks associated with insulin analogues.
  

• while recognising that Government cannot interfere with the commercial decisions of pharmaceutical companies, Government is responsible for the health of British citizens and we are asking them to ensure that alternative sources of animal insulins are sought in the event that Novo Nordisk decide to discontinue availability of animal insulin in the summer of 2005, their stated time for the final decision.
